Proof of Jesus' Resurrection is the Holy Spirit
 APRIL 2024

“He is not here for He has arisen” (Matt. 28:6; Mk. 16:6; Lk. 24: 5–7). Christianity is the only religion in the world that believes Jesus Christ died, physically resurrected from the dead, and lives on today. The first time Jesus appeared and visited His disciples, Thomas, one of the twelve, was not among them. Thomas was aware of what Jesus had previously said that "he must be killed and raised on the third day" (Matt. 16:21). But Thomas refused to believe, even when the other disciples testified to him about what they had seen. He went on to say, "Unless I see in his hands, the print of the nails; and place my hand in his side, I will not believe" (Jn. 20:25).

When Jesus appeared to all His disciples for the second time, He told Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas told him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus answered to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe” (Jn. 20:27–29).

Like a "doubting Thomas," many people today lack faith, refusing to believe in Jesus or His resurrection. The Bible explains faith clearly: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" (Heb. 11:1). Still today, there is someone who is a "doubting Thomas"— someone who lacks faith—and Jesus comes to them in His physical body to deal with them. The Apostle Paul testified that Jesus had "appeared to more than five hundred of his followers at once, most of whom are still alive, although some have died." (1 Cor. 15:6). Gordon also experienced such a visitation from Jesus.

Easter represents Jesus' resurrection and can be confirmed by His promise of the Holy Spirit, as recorded in the Book of Acts: "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Samaria and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:7-8). "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (languages), as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:4). In Greek, "to speak in other languages" is to speak confidently and urgently to someone, either in a real language spoken today or in the past, a language that has not been previously taught.

Although few people observed Jesus being raised from the dead, we have evidence of His resurrection not just from His empty tomb, but also from the Holy Spirit and the "signs, wonders, and miracles" that followed (Jn 4:48). In the words of Jesus, "These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues (languages); they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover" (Mk. 16:17-18, emphasis added).

Paul also claims that God's miracles and spiritual gifts bear witness to Jesus' resurrection: "It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard him, while God also bore witness by signs (Mk. 16:17-20), wonders, and various miracles, and by Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:8-10), distributed according to His own will" (Heb. 2:3-4). If God's signs, wonders, and miracles are not a part of our daily personal relationship with Jesus, what would be the proof of our salvation? "Unless you people see signs and wonders," Jesus told him, “you will never believe."

People grow excited at our House Church meetings when they discover the "authenticity" or proof of Salvation after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in their new “tongues language”, a language they had never acquired before (1 Cor. 12:10). Their tongues are then interpreted by another prayer group member, who has the "Gift of Interpretation" (1 Cor. 12:10). They listen attentively and in great anticipation for God to reveal His personal message to them for their life through the interpretator (Jer. 21:11-13).

Today the work of the Holy Spirit is demonstrated by the “signs following” and by the use of the “Gifts of the Holy Spirit”. They are our blessed assurance that Jesus died on the cross, and physically rose from the dead. As in the Book of Acts, Jesus' promises the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to those who believe, and we can be joyful and show thanksgiving towards Jesus this Easter for His ultimate sacrifice (1 Jn. 5:11-12).

If you or someone you know would like to receive Salvation, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, healing, encouragement or any other needs, we invite you come to one of our house church meetings or contact us and we will be happy to pray with you. Together let’s testify about Jesus to our family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances - anyone and everyone - telling them about the signs, wonders and miracles Jesus has performed in our lives.

Happy Easter!

Scripture of the Month

He is Risen:

Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.

Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!

Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’”

And they remembered His words. Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles.

And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them. But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.

(Luke 24, NKJV)

Life, Death, Resurrection - A Pattern of New Life

"Guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us"  (2 Timothy 1:12-18).

The key to serving Jesus Christ, regardless of our circumstances, is knowing Him and recognizing the pattern He established for us through His life, death and resurrection - and through His Word.  The Holy Spirit holds that key.  "Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him" (Romans 8:9)

The main reason people visit the Holy Land is because Jesus was born there. Jesus grew up in the fishing village of Nazareth (Matt. 2:23) in the home of Joseph, a carpenter, who taught Him to be a carpenter as well.

Jesus, the eldest of five brothers and two sisters (Matt. 13:55), attended the synagogue regularly and also accompanied His family to the Temple in Jerusalem (Lk. 2:52).

Because He had an above average understanding of the Scriptures and of God; most people thought that He had gone away to study at a special religious school - He was so knowledgeable about God's Kingdom (Lk. 2:46-52).

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought..." (Romans 8:26).

Congratulations goes to Dr. Brent McLaughlin, now Rev. McLaughlin, who was ordained at his Beaverton House Church on March 10, 2017.

The local veternarian received his ordination through GWEA's ministry, and the ECA (Evangelical Church Alliance) Ministerial Fellowship of Canada.

Rev. McLaughlin is known locally for his remarkable ministry with animals, and is gifted with the Holy Spirit and the "signs following" (Mark 16:16-17).
